Coal Miners Assistance Program

Statement

Each and every day, I am fighting for our hardworking coal miners and their families. Tragically, however, the war on coal has been devastating to our state, causing coal-fired power plants to close and coal mines to be idled, putting thousands of our coal miners out of work.

I extend my deepest sympathies to our hardworking coal miners and their families, who, for no fault of their own, have been laid off or terminated. Losing one's job and not knowing what steps to take next can be stressful, but my offices are here to help in any way that I can.

Please download my Coal Miners Assistance Program packet here, which is a tool to help you find a new job and receive any benefits for which you may qualify, such as unemployment, disability or Black Lung Benefits. I hope the information in this packet will be a useful resource for you as you search for employment. You and your family already have enough concerns; you should not have to spend hours searching for resources and contacts available to assist you.

Coal mining is a proud tradition in our state, and I am proud to stand up for West Virginia energy and West Virginia workers as a member of Congress. The people of West Virginia elected me for a purpose -- to create and protect West Virginia jobs, to grow our economy, and ensure a better future for our children and grandchildren. As your representative in Congress, I will continue fighting for you and your family in Washington.
